Barbering Practice Tutorial Video

Feedback

After distributing a google form to receive feedback and asking questions like what the audience thought and what I could improve on, I have since received answers which will help me when I come to create the final video. When asking the audience what they thought of the video, I was told that it is short and informative, as well as well edited together and the aim of the video is clear. Asking what I could improve on, I have learnt that when I come to create my final video to be assessed, ways I could make it more appealing are to:
  • Use more visual effects
  • Add an outro
  • Provide text on screen to explain what is happening in each step, making the video easier to follow, and also making it appeal to a larger audience
  • Adding a cutaway
Following this, I also asked which parts the audience liked most, to perhaps bring into my final piece:
  • The shot types used
  • The volume of the music and voiceover ( how the volume lowered when he spoke )
  • The overview at the end, to show what the audience should aim for / what the end product should look like
After receiving my feedback, the improvements I would make would be to add text on screen to make it more clear and easier to follow, as well as including an outro, and to make my introduction more professional looking. I have learnt ways in which I can ensure my final piece will appeal to the target audience, for example again making sure the music is appropriate and is also at the correct volume to ensure we can hear dialogue.

From creating my own instructional video, I knew that things like different camera angles, etc. were needed, along with several other techniques. After we collected the camera and tripod, we began to film each individual clip in the studio, and made sure to include a range of different shot types, like wide shots and extreme close ups, letting the audience be able to see the haircut in different angles, helping them further so they know exactly what they are creating. We also made sure to film shots of those involved talking through the haircut, as well as shots without any dialogue to ensure we had enough footage. I believe the filming process went well, as we were able to complete it quite quickly while getting everything we needed.

After spending the lesson filming, we went back to begin editing. Upon editing I did face some problems, such as the software not working and not being able to input videos. While this did set me back slightly, I soon was able to begin editing my video. After arranging my clips, I input them into the software and began to remove sound where needed - such as the clips with no dialogue. I then increased the volume on the clips where dialogue was essential, making sure it was clear so the audience can hear what is happening to ensure they know how to follow each step. Once the audio was complete, I also made the clips appear bigger so that the background was more similar in each segment. Furthermore, I added a short introduction including the college logo as well as the video title. Once the intro was complete and the clips were in correct order, I went away and found an audio which would be suitable for a barbering video and is also non copyright. After finding a good fit, I inserted it into the software, and using different audio transitions I was able to enable the volume of the audio to decrease when there was dialogue.
